Baking day

We are leaving for my sister’s place tomorrow, there is also my niece’s birthday party. We went shopping last weekend to a new mall and bought some formals for Ims and a pretty frock for Eru, there were good 40-60% off discounts at CK, Gap, BR etc.

Anyway, I baked some goodies today to take on the trip and everything came delicious. Enjoy the pics. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m loving the garlic flavor, after seeing many diverse recipes using it at the Garlic festival we visited last year.

And it goes on

I had this exam to give on wednesday, and I did not clear it. ๐Ÿ˜ Ok, I was not well prepared, but like I said earlier, I’m a hopeless optimist, I always think everything will eventually happen my way, Baah! and I flunked, ok anyway, I have an other chance, so chuck it.

Then I borrowed my first book from the BookWorms Club in our office, ‘A Thousand Splendid Suns’, read it at one go and finished it in a day. I had heard a lot of good reviews about it, and I kind of knew the story, and expected some events in it. But what amazes me about the book is not only the story, but also the story telling. It is so meticulously written, even a small thing explained in detail which makes you imagine so beautifully. I loved reading it.

Then I discovered this blog here , and read all of it in a day too, really good one, added it to my blogroll, and I also liked the names she has used there, calls herself Pepper and her husband as Mint. I’m also thinking of some nice names like that now, may be something like Tom Jerry, Pani Puri, Fruit Nut, blah blahblah.. suggest some na.

We were 8 of us staying in a 4bhk last year, and the mother of one of the girls came to stay with us for a month. She cooked nice food for us, and picture this while having dinner one fine evening.
Aunt: ‘What difference do you find in the rice today?’
I was surprised to say the least, firstly I’m not a good cook, and secondly what do these white grains even taste like to say the difference.
Aunt: ‘Don’t they look larger, and fluffy?’.
Me: ‘Yeah, it’s good, what did you do?’
And then she beamed, and started the tale, of how soaking it for an hour makes them so.
Me: Eye-Rolling smiley.

You know my MIL and SIL observe a lot, like the clothes, jewellery, shoes, bags etc etc.The other day when we were watching TV..
MIL: ‘Hey, did you see the saree she wore?’
Me: ‘Er.. yeah it was good na, a yellow one’
Here I say it is good/bad based on the expression on her face, and I know I should have stopped at the first part, but I think I love taking risks.
MIL: ‘Nono.. that sea green one’
Me: (Trying to search on the screen) ‘Oh that one ? Yes, its so beautiful na’
MIL: (Happy) ‘Yeah’.
Me: Thank God.

There have been so many instances like this, and I can’t, for the life of me, remember or observe who wears what and which jewellery they wore when etc., I can gladly identify my stuff though. ๐Ÿ˜›

Roller Coaster Ride

That is how the last month has been for me, but trust me, I still took out time to read all your posts. ๐Ÿ˜› Firstly, IM’s grandfather came to stay with us for 10 days, and we realised how tricky it was to take care of an 80 year old. Our timings went haywire, and we found ourselves waking up at 5 every morning to provide him bed coffee, and sleeping at 9 after he’s done with his boost. ๐Ÿ˜€ We took turns to wake up early sometimes, and one day when it was my turn, I woke up on time to find him asleep, so I lied back for sometime, and when I woke up again after 30 mins, he was still asleep.. this way I finally woke up at 7, and he said he has been waking up and checking if we were awake since 5, LOL.. It was not easy to prepare good food for non cooks like us too, but we somehow managed to feed him well and he left all happy.

Then we got a news that IM’s visa has been approved, we were like WHAT??!, it was such a long wait of 8 months. So we celebrated, and guess what, he was asked to travel in a week too. So then began the shopping, packing, etc and etc.. We used to shop after office, and would return back at almost 11 daily, it was tiresome with many more things to do too, and then both our families landed to see him off, and he finally left last saturday to Concord, CA. Such an exciting roller coaster ride the last month has been. Amidst all this, we managed to get the marriage certificate by paying a cool 10k. And there are so many pending things for me to do now, have to shift to a room near office soon and what not., I hope everything gets sorted by this month end and I get to enjoy Ramzan. And did I tell you how the first time, we went for the yoga class, the instructor met with an accident and the classes got cancelled, yeah it happened so. ๐Ÿ˜

And you guessed it right, I might travel soon too. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Its an amusing reality

I’m sure you guys loved my new blog name and look, I had a cool 4 subscriptions and the blog hits crossed 600 last month.. I know, I know its insignificant, but I’m slowly getting there. And ofcourse, the CSA awareness did great. On work front, it has been pretty stagnant like before, nothing interesting, just stuck with some silly defects. And I got 2 new books last weekend, ‘Ohh yes I am single..! And so is my girlfriend’ and ‘All and nothing’.. I’m half way through the first one, and itโ€™s better than the author, Durjoy Datta’s previous book, but not as good as his first one.

And yea.. my parents and siblings are here.. so its a welcome break from kitchen, but not so for poor Mom ‘cos its freaking hot here, and all I am doing since 2 weeks is chatting and giggling my way to glory with my sisters.. We could not go to Kanyakumari, but we roamed around our office campus, the new mall in the city, did some shopping and had fun at the beach, it was like a carnival out there on Saturday evening. And I’m not thinking twice before indulging in the pizzas, burgers and all. True that I have gained nearly 7 kilos in the last year, but I promise this is it, I’m seriously cutting down ABC (Alcohol, Bread & Carbohydrates) from the next week.

Of late, I have become an agony aunt for my friends.. First there was V who would call me for advices, and say that he would pay me a 100 for each consultation, lol.. Then there was this guy P who came up to me last week, saying he was having a rift with his girlfriend, and wanted me to talk to her and make her understand his point of view. Phew! I hardly knew her, but he was insisting I speak to her as a friend and said she might understand as I’m a senior :S.. I guess they are on the verge of a breakup, and I do not know how much of a help I can be, but I’m gonna call her up today.

And I feel so boring here, I seriously think I need a place change.. Its been 5 months and there is no update on IM’s visa yet. And my work doesn’t look good either. The best project I have worked with was the one in Bangalore. I stayed there last year for 5 months, and it was a great team to work with, and the work was equally challenging. I had the perfect alone time there, and also the weekend hopping and shopping with a friend S who showed me the city, and the amazing fest at his office and then a weekend off to a cousin’s place at Ramnagar, and a small and lovely trip to Mangalore finally, it was so much fun there, itโ€™s a beautiful place, perfect for a vacation sans the crowd.

Well, so here I take your leave, and I’ll be back soon with more updates. Hey!! Did I tell you, I am lost watching the serial ‘Navya’ on TV these days.. The guy is so cuteee.. And did you watch Salman’s new song ‘Character Dheela..’, very catchy and hummable, and that Veer girl looks good too ๐Ÿ˜€

Girls, and Stuff

Girly chats are what I adore.. I just had a small chat with a friend G, and we discussed all about hair, face, traffic, food, weight, books etc. She was my roommate when she was in Chennai till last year, and we used to have so much fun. And talking of parlours, she had once heard of a very famous salon, and we decided to try that, we were like ok it might be expensive, but may be a double or triple the price we pay at most and would be good too ofcourse.. It was a cool one hour journey from where we stayed, and we roamed around in the sun and found the parlour after another 30 mins.. As soon as we entered, we saw few guys waiting for their turns, we had never been to a unisex one till then and it felt a bit weird (I know I know itโ€™s so common now :P).. It looked more like a hospital than a salon to me, we were taken in for consultation first (??).. the lady there asked us what we wanted and gave us a detailed info on what they do.. we finally asked her the price and guess what ?!!.. It was more than 15 times what we pay generally.. My friend was so surprised, and I just said ok thanks, weโ€™ll come by later and left immediately. We had a hearty laugh outside and had some yummy food first, did some street shopping and left for home.. And refreshed at our usual salon the next day. Bliss!!

Mornings are always busy.. Woke up at 6.45 today, and knowing that hubby has an important call every Wednesday at 8.30.. set off to prepare lunch and breakfast.. As usual, by the time I packed the boxes, it was 7.45.. rushed to get ready, and it was 8 then.. so no time for breakfast today, put the dosa batter back in fridge and had a glass of milk instead.. We work at the same office, and its nearly 12kms from our house, and itโ€™s a highway, so not advisable to take the bike.. We try our level best to take the bus or train, but on days like these, we have to use the bike.. reached on time, and I rushed to the washroom to freshen up (The face and hair need to be set again :|)..

I saw 2 movies last weekend, โ€˜Patiala Houseโ€™ and โ€˜Do dooni charโ€™.. PH is an ok one but I enjoyed watching DDC, could so relate to it.. Then I finished reading โ€˜Ladies Coupeโ€™, I expected more and it was a serious kind of book.. We also went for some shopping last Saturday.. We stay quite far from the City, and it takes hours of planning to even go to a mall..So off we went and had yummy south Indian meals to our fill, and shopped around.. And I got some lovely kurtis from Lifestyle priced at just 299 each (What a steal !!).. Sunday I decided to try my hand at Mutton Curry, and I simply love cooking though Iโ€™m not that good at it.. So hubby was left with all cleaning and washing stuff.. ๐Ÿ˜‰ His family loves spicy food, and mine taste so bland to him, he adds some more chilly, and says I will cook mutton next time.. I say cool, be my guest..
