Prawn & Pulao

I had a new combo in my mind the other day and we actually licked our fingers and emptied the dishes during dinner. Yes, it was Prawn Masala and Pulao (also called Bagara Khana in Andhra). 🙂

Prawn Masala
Ingredients:

Prawns – 1 1/2 cup

Chopped Onions – 1/4 cup
Chopped Tomatoes – 1/4 cup
Chopped Green Chillies – 2

Ginger garlic paste – 3 Tbsp
Fresh Coconut paste – 2 Tbsp

Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Red Chilli powder – 2 tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp

Salt – 1 tsp
Oil – 3Tbsp

Coriander leaves – 1/4 cup

Recipe:
Clean and wash the prawns well. Boil them in little water and turmeric powder till cooked.

Heat oil in a pan. Add the chopped onions and green chillies and cook till it changes color. Then add the ginger garlic paste, let it cook till the raw smell leaves. Then add the coconut paste and ultimately the tomatoes.

Add the turmeric powder, chilli powder and coriander powder to this and let the gravy cook till soft. Add the prawns now. Then add a glass of water and cook on medium flame till the gravy thickens and the oil separates. Garnish with lots of chopped coriander leaves.

Pulao

Cloves – 3
Cinnamon sticks – 2

Ginger garlic paste – 3 Tbsp
Fresh coconut paste – 2 Tbsp

Mint leaves – 1/4 cup

Salt – 1/2 Tbsp
Ghee – 5 Tbsp

Recipe:
Wash the basmati rice and soak in water for sometime.

Heat ghee in a wide vessel and add cloves, cardamoms, cinnamons, peppercorns, and bay leaves. Then add the sliced onions and cook till the color changes. Add the ginger garlic paste and fry well. Then add the coconut paste and tomatoes. Cook for a minute and then add the mint leaves, coriander leaves and green chillies.

Add 4 cups of water and let it boil. Now add the rice and salt. Let it cook on medium to high flame till it boils. Then on a low flame till done.
